In 2019, Jiangnan University was approved to offer a Master's program in Primary Education. The degree program has established a discipline team with a reasonable educational structure, diverse academic backgrounds, and strong research capabilities. The mentor team consists of 4 professors, 13 associate professors, and nearly 100% of them hold doctoral degrees. The forefront and original research on the basic theories of this discipline have had an impact, highlighting the value of interdisciplinary integration of curriculum and teaching research practice. The theoretical and applied research on educational informatization is leading domestically, and the research on regional educational history and culture has distinctive characteristics. The results of psychological education and learning research are fruitful, and the integration of pre-service and in-service teacher education has become a brand. In recent years, the program has undertaken over 30 national, provincial, and ministerial-level projects, received more than 20 awards at the provincial and ministerial levels, published over 30 books and textbooks, and published nearly 100 papers, including nearly 60 high-quality papers indexed by SCI and CSSCI. It has gained recognition and praise from the academic community and society in terms of talent cultivation, scientific research, social services, and cultural inheritance and innovation.
To cultivate highly qualified primary school teachers with ideals, ethical qualities, solid knowledge, compassion, a deep understanding of Chinese culture and an international perspective, as well as a mastery of modern educational theories, strong teaching and research abilities. The specific training objectives are as follows:
1. Love the country and support the leadership of the Communist Party of China. Have a passion for education, educate students, be a role model, be proactive, and have the courage to innovate. Students should consciously develop their character, study with integrity, and teach with integrity, firmly following the path of socialist education development with Chinese characteristics.
2. Correctly understand and grasp the national education policies and regulations, emphasize moral education in the classroom, promote moral character through exemplary behavior, and have a strong sense of professional ethics and social responsibility in serving the development of basic education.
3. Have a high level of theoretical literacy, develop advanced educational concepts in line with the reform and development of basic education and the requirements of the times, strive to become a "four-have" good teacher with ideals, ethical qualities, solid knowledge, and compassion.
4. Systematically master the knowledge structure and research methods of the discipline, and possess strong teaching and research capabilities.
5. Understand the actual situation of primary and secondary education reform, have a strong willingness and ability for independent professional development, and have the awareness and ability to discover and solve problems, engage in lifelong learning and development. Develop the ability to analyze educational issues from multiple dimensions and perspectives, and constantly innovate in practice.
