General Secretary Xi Jinping emphasized in his speech at the symposium on literary and artistic work that Chinese culture adheres to its roots while constantly advancing with the times. This has enabled the Chinese nation to maintain strong national confidence and resilience, nurture a shared sense of emotion, values, ideals, and spirit. The Chinese Language and Literature (Teacher Training) program at Jiangnan University upholds this spirit of staying rooted while embracing innovation, promoting Chinese culture, and cultivating generations of cultural intellectuals and socialist builders. The program boasts a strong faculty, a rich academic atmosphere, and diverse cultural activities, characterized by adherence to principles and innovation.

The Department of Chinese Language and Literature at the School of Humanities of Jiangnan University can be traced back to the establishment of the College of Literature at Jiangnan University by Mr. Qian Mu in 1948. The Chinese Language and Literature program was established in 1981 and currently offers a master's degree in Chinese Language and Literature as a primary discipline, including five secondary master's programs: Ancient Chinese Literature, Modern and Contemporary Chinese Literature, Literary Studies, Comparative Literature and World Literature, Linguistics, and Applied Linguistics.

The program has a strong and well-structured faculty, with 34 full-time teachers, nearly 90% of whom hold the rank of associate professor or above, and over 60% of whom have doctoral degrees and serve as supervisors for master's students. The program has made significant achievements in the fields of Chinese classics research, compilation of chronicles and biographies, poetics and aesthetics research, literary trends, film and television culture, and food culture. It has yielded fruitful results in areas such as "Wu Culture research," "Research on Historical and Cultural Figures in Jiangnan," and "Research on Academic and Cultural Aspects of Southern Jiangsu."
