This research center is based on the current reality of reforming fundamental education practice, integrating the team's academic achievements and research purport so as to form the joint effort of team. It also adhere to the purposes of "international perspective, China's position, local issues, special research" , around the Yangtze River delta--especially the history of education and cultural traditions in southern Jiangsu and especially the contemporary curriculum and teaching reform practice, so as to try to contribute to the Chinese experience of educational reform and the exploration of Chinese wisdom under the background of globalization through the study of discipline and regional characteristics, echoing and integrating into the great change era. The research center is divided into two teams of curriculum culture and educational change research, basic education curriculum and teaching research.

The southern Jiangsu has rich accumulation of educational history, which is a piece of thick soil for culture. It is precisely the reason that this piece of land has the public faith of respecting teacher, valuing education, and doing good to society with poetry, which is the cultural traditions, it have created the social situation of talent coming out and economic development, and undergoing the winding and raining for long time but  the literature flourish. Based on these accumulation, the research center is devoted to research with historical dimension, so as to combine the track of local educational history and culture evolution, and to summarize the educational experience and wisdom with local characteristics, such as the Wu “Wang-zu” Education, Wu Industrial education, Wu home education, Wu Girls ' education, Wu New school and so on, which provide reference to current educational reform in China and even the great rejuvenation of the Chinese Nation. At the same time, as a developed area of economy, society and culture after the reform and opening-up, South Jiangsu has its own educational and cultural roots. In fact, the basic education in the south of Jiangsu Province has been in the top list in the country—accumulating more extensive practical experience in the practice of course reform and strengthening the research on the contemporary educational reform in this area. The Center’s studies not only contribute to the sustainable development of the south Jiangsu fundamental education and the whole society, but also can provide the experience and reference for our country education career development, as well as to dedicate the elements of south Jiangsu for the pedagogy theory prosperity that characterize the Chinese characteristic, the Chinese style, the Chinese wisdom.

These are the main research contents and value pursuit of the two research directions of the center. To do the above researches, the development of pedagogy discipline in Jiangnan University will reach a new level and enter a new stage of development.
